First half: best game of vollyball I have seen for some time! fab.

I have the utmost respect for Mr Kerr formerly of the UDA and the idea popular with a minority in the U'Da/Uff of Ulster as a Nation.

The problems are this:
1 half of NI is Catholic/Nationalist 32

2 the other half are Unionists even though screwed by England's Westminster/Shithall.

That means even in the Eastern sea-board proddi majority areas they would rather walk with their heads in the sand and sing song of the union that betrayed them to become irish rather than look to the old ways?

"The British and U.S. governments accused Noraid of being a front for the IRA, an accusation that has always been denied by Noraid. Noraid's former leader, Martin Galvin, was banned from the United Kingdom in the 1980s. NORAID are widely believed to have been involved in fundraising for the Provisional IRA arms importation from North America since the early 1970s. In May 1981, the U.S. Department of Justice won a court case forcing Noraid to register the Provisional IRA as its "foreign principal", under the Foreign Agents Registration Act 1938. Dáithí Ó Conaill (1938 – 1 January 1991) was an Irish republican, a member of the IRA Army Council, vice-president of Provisional Sinn Féin and Republican Sinn Féin. He was also the first chief of staff of the Continuity IRA.

Ó Conaill was born in Cork in 1938. His uncle Michael O'Sullivan, a member of the 1st Cork Brigade of the Irish Republican Army, was bayoneted to death by British forces in 1921. After his vocational school education, he trained as a woodwork teacher in a college in County Wexford.

He joined the Republican Movement at 17 years of age and took part in the IRA Border Campaign. On 1 January 1957 he was second-in-command of the Pearse Column which carried out the raid on Brookeborough Royal Ulster Constabulary Barracks in County Fermanagh, in which Seán South and Fergal O'Hanlon were killed. He was arrested by the Garda Síochána and imprisoned in Mountjoy Prison for six months. Upon release, he was interned in the Curragh. On 27 September 1958 he escaped along with Ruairí Ó Brádaigh and went on the run.

With most of the IRA leadership under arrest or interned, Ó Brádaigh became IRA chief of staff and Ó Conaill became IRA Director of Operations.

With the outbreak of the Troubles in Northern Ireland in the late 1960s, Ó Conaill was initially reluctant to reactivate his interest in the IRA, despite approaches from prominent republicans. He eventually returned to the IRA and was appointed Officer in Command (OC) of the organisation in Co Donegal by the then IRA chief of staff Cathal Goulding.

Ó Conaill was approached by elements from within the Irish government and the Fianna Fáil party with an offer to provide arms and training in Irish Army barracks or ranges. [2]

Ó Conaill went with the Provisional IRA after the 1969 IRA split and served on the first Provisional IRA Army Council. In 1970 he travelled to New York and was instrumental in establishing Irish Northern Aid or NORAID, which raised funds for the Provisionals.

In 1971, he travelled to Prague and purchased 4.5 tons of small arms from the Czechoslovakia state arms marketing company, Omnipol. The consignment was later seized in the Netherlands.

Noraid: "The 'Irish Action Committee' already existed and could form the basis of the kind of organisation which Daithi O Conaill had in mind . O Conaill foresaw that as the IRA grew and became more active , it would lose more of its Volunteers to jail ; since traditionally the IRA supported the families of jailed IRA men , this would put a great financial strain on the organisation .

Irish-American money would help alleviate that strain . As they discussed the nature of the proposed organisation , it was decided that the name of the 'Irish Action Committee' would have to be changed . Michael Flannery was anxious that there be no connotations of violence associated with it - that is , it should be recognised as a benevolent organisation . They considered calling it " The Dependents Fund " , but this was rejected as too vague .

Finally they chose ' The Irish Northern Aid Committee ' (INAC) - or NORAID , as it has become popularly known . The founding members were Michael Flannery and two other old IRA men of that generation : Jack McGowan and Jack McCarthy . McGowan had fought in the IRA's Clare Brigade fifty years before , while McCarthy had been a member of the Cork Brigade . Like Michael Flannery , they had come to America in the 1920's after the Irish Republican cause suffered defeat in the Civil War .

And also like Michael Flannery , both men were active in the Irish-American community , with wide contacts in its various organisations and in the labour movement ......."

In 2005, several members of the Continuity IRA, who were serving prison sentences in Portlaoise Prison for paramilitary activity, left the organisation. Some transferred to the Irish National Liberation Army landing of the prison, but the majority of those who left are now independent and on E4 landing. The remaining Continuity IRA prisoners have moved to E3 landing, which houses Real IRA prisoners. Supporters of the Continuity IRA leadership claim that this resulted from an internal disagreement, which although brought to a conclusion, was followed by some people leaving the organisation anyway. The first recorded contact between the Picts and the Romans seems to be in 43 A.D. when the kings of the Orkneys sent ambassadors to Claudius during his conquest of Britain. Agricola reached the Forth-Clyde line and set up Roman forts between 82 A.D. and 90 A.D. The 2nd century geographer Ptolemy drew on information from the time of Agricola to describe the Picts. He descibes them as being divided into 13 peoples or tribes. These tribes included the Orcades or Orkneys. Their tribal name was perhaps Orcoi or Orci, meaning 'Boar People'. The name is Celtic. Ptolemy's Ebudae may have a non-Celtic name. Other tribes included the Caereni, Cornavii, and Epidii, all Celtic names. The Caereni and the Carnonacae lived in northwestern Scotland. The Cornavii and Smertae lived in the northeastern tip of Scotland across from the Orkneys. The Decantae lived just north of the Black Isle. The Caledonii were an especially strong tribe who lived along Loch Ness. East of the Caledonii and north of the River Dee were the Vacomagi and the Taexali. The Boresti may have lived south of the Taexali. South of the River Tay were the Venicones. In the west, the Epidii lived in the Kintyre Peninsula across from Ireland. The Creones lived between Skye and Loch Linnhe. The Ebudae lived in the Hebrides. South of these groups, but north of the Romans, were the Damnonii, the future Strathclyde Britons. The Damnonii lived around the Clyde near the later city of Glasgow. The Votadini lived east of them around the Forth. Their lands included the future city of Edinburgh. The Novantae lived in Galloway and Dumfries. The Selgovae lived inland in the hill country. Their name comes from the term, "Hunters". The Antonine Wall was built along the Forth-Clyde line in 142 A.D. by Antoninus Pius. The Wall was held until 161 A.D., when Antoninus Pius died. The northern border then moved south to Hadrian's Wall between the Tyne and Solway. Around 180 B.C., the northern tribes crossed the Wall and fought the Romans. At the end of the century, they were bought off by a lot of money. By 208 A.D., the Romans in Britain again had to appeal to Rome for help. Septimius Severus and his sons came and restored Roman order. Septimius Severus died in 211 in York and his son, Caracalla, returned to Rome to become emperor. Hadrian's Wall remained the northern border for some time. The Romans periodically paid off the Picts with silver coins from the time of Septimius Severus until the fourth century. In the third century A.D. the Picts seem to have been divided into two large tribal groups, whom the Romans called the Caledonii and the Maeatae. The Maeatae lived around the Antonine Wall and the Caledonii lived further north. The Caledonii are first mentioned in the early 1st century A.D. while the Maeatae are mentioned around 200 A.D. Adomnan mentions a people called the Miathi, who may be the same as the Maeatae. This division seems to have lasted until the 7th century. Bede mentions a northern and southern group of Picts. A quick note on the variations. One german black has the safety behind the trigger, slide down to fire. Its magazeen release is located at the butt or hilt of the gun, as a push-back slide to release the magazeen, located behind the magazeen. This takes the use of the free hand to do. Loading a magazeen needs to push-back on this catch (with the magazeen wiggled at an angle first.... easier done than said)

Speaking of decommissioned weapons, as the Provisional IRA was doing so it seems the British Army did too... and surrendered its L96 Ai Sniper Rifles... over to the care of the Irish Defence Forces (IV FF). Some type of gesture of goodwill.

The L96 Sniper Rifle is accurate enough to achieve a first round hit at 600 m and achieve harassing fire out to 1000 m. The rifle is normally fitted with the Schmidt and Bender 6 x 42 telescopic sight. The front bipod is fully adjustable and folds away when not in use. Eight trained snipers are equipped with this weapon as part of Manoeuvre Support elements within the BG. Snipers are masters of camouflage, concealment and operating alone for long periods. L96 fires ball and armour-piercing ammunition. (500 m is urban range by the way)

"The countdown to a united Ireland is under way, according to Stormont’s Deputy First Minister in waiting, Martin McGuinness.

As Sinn Féin members took part in over 100 Easter Rising commemorations across Ireland, Mr McGuinness told an event at Drumboe in Co Donegal yesterday that 2007 had been a big year for republicans who are shaping history once again.

The Mid-Ulster MP, who will jointly head the new Northern Executive when it is re-established on May 8 with the Democratic Unionist leader, the Ian Paisley, as First Minister, insisted Sinn Féin was ready for government.

And he also said the party’s republicanism did not stop on the northern side of the border, with it aiming to be in government in both parts of the island.

“As the process progresses, more people are recognising that we have now entered the end phase of our struggle,” Mr McGuinness said.

“I truly believe that we have begun the countdown to a united Ireland, and we are continuing to get that message out as widely as possible.

“But Sinn Féin is the only party with the courage to say it aloud, and encourage proper management of the transition.

“Denying the obvious will serve no purpose, other than to give false hope to those wishing it were not so.”

Mr McGuinness said, in recent times, other parties in the Ireland had been anxious to show their united Ireland credentials.

However, while this was welcome, he said rhetorical republicanism at election time would fool nobody.

“If they are serious about their aspirations for a united Ireland, then I challenge them to join with us and with like-minded campaign groups, trade unions and other interested sections of our society to create an alliance for Irish unity,” he said.

“The potential to progress an all-Ireland strategy for ensuring full implementation of the Good Friday Agreement is tremendous." ... " The Sinn Féin MP said that, as republicans entered the final lap in the journey towards a united Ireland, they must try to understand the anxieties of unionists for whom such change was a terrifying prospect.

However, he said, unionists also had responsibilities, including the need to face down sectarian politics, which had been used by loyalist paramilitaries to justify their refusal to follow the IRA lead and disarm.

He asked why loyalists still felt the need to retain their weapons.

“Who are they intended for use against?” he asked.

“It requires that they (unionist leaders) use their influence to encourage these groups to embrace the political path."

Peter Mandelson says there will probably be a united Ireland in Gerry Adams' lifetime, because Britain has no stomach for a renewed fight with the IRA.

The former Northern Ireland secretary also says it is likely the Sinn Fein president will serve as a minister in the government of the Republic of Ireland, and could even be head of state of a united Ireland, if Sinn Fein continues on a political path and increases support throughout Ireland.

In an article in January's edition of men's magazine GQ, Mr Mandelson says the recent decommisioning gesture was "token", and warns the struggle in Ireland is far from over - comments that earned an immediate rebuttal from his successor, John Reid.

Mr Mandelson says the decommissioning decision was taken more than a year ago, but delayed to gain credit for saving the peace process from a crisis of the IRA's making: "Physical force republicanism has been put to one side, but political republicanism received a huge shot in the arm from the media orchestration of the IRA's gesture of disposing of an amount of its arms."

Decommissioning led to concessions: an amnesty for former terrorists on the run, described by Mr Mandelson as "logical"; dismantling of British security installations, which he described as "risky" given the Real IRA; and further inquiries into past British security "misdeeds" - which Mr Mandelson said was "rubbing salt into wounds".

Another concession was changes to the new police service, on top of those reforms agreed and intended to make it acceptable to both sides. It also emerged yesterday that Northern Ireland's special branch has failed to prove it is pushing on the reforms instigated by the Patten report.

The oversight commissioner, Tom Constantine, who was once a New York police chief and head of the US drug enforcement agency, admitted he had given police departments a very short time to respond to his request for hundreds of documents on how the predominantly Protestant force could be made more acceptable to Catholics." DAVID JAMES LAVERTY was born on April, 18th, 1896 at Ballytober, Bushmills, Co Antrim, where his parents kept the local post office. In his late teenage years during the Home Rule crisis he joined the Ulster Volunteer Force. As he put it, 'We were not all that political. You became a member because your mates were in it’. When I asked about his memories of the Lame gun-running in April 1914 I was told that only the older members from his area were permitted to go down. 'We had to stay behind and look after Bushmills!'

In September 1914 he travelled to Ballymoney with his two best pals to enlist. David was the only one of the three to survive the war. The 12th Battalion trained at Clandeboye Estate, Co Down. He remembered one particular NCO who 'gave me a hard time'. He told me that he was a member of the 'Suicide Club'. When I replied that I didn't realise that he was a bomber he must have been impressed by my 'knowledge'; at least I assumed that from his wry smile.

As part of the 36th (Ulster) Division, the 12th Battalion were in the front line at Hamel, near Thiepval, in Northern France. He made sure to impress on me the fact that their badges (the battle patches) were 'half moons of powder blue'. A fellow Bushmills-man and pre-war UVF comrade, Robert Quigg joined them there as a member of his platoon. He was the batman to their Platoon Officer, Sir Harry Macnaghtan of Dundarave, as he had previously worked on the Estate. Davy remembered Quigg as 'a madman'. He wanted to kill all the Germans and to calm him down he was posted to the cookhouse and then to the bakery. However, even after his duties were over he was always along the parapet to see where the Germans were! So reckless was Quigg's behaviour that other soldiers from the battalion had a difficult time getting him to keep his head down to avoid getting it blown off.

One of his nastier memories of the time was the conduct of a captain from Bushmills, who ordered them, for his own amusement, to double-up in their full kit and gas masks, until they were exhausted and near collapse. 'He was a sadist. Three of us shot at him, you know. I aimed to miss but the other two didn't!'

A happier incident was the story of the spring at Thiepval. This was situated among rocks and was a very popular target for the German snipers. As he was small and quick on his feet a string was tied to his waist and he made a run for it. He made it safely and then reeled in the empty jerry cans lobe filled. He remembered it being a very hot sunny day, so after the exertion, he undid his collar and lay back to relax himself and to enjoy a drink of the cool, fresh water in his tin mug. Because of the long silence his mates became concerned for his welfare and in response to 'Davy, are you all right?' he started to kid them how wonderful the water tasted and how much he was enjoying it. Once it was in the can he remembered that there was always the taste of petrol afterwards.

Recalling the day of the 'Big Push', July 1st, 1916, obviously saddened him even after all those years. Especialy as he remembered being given a tot of strong drink shortly before the 'off at 7.30am. "I was a teetotaler and passsed my drink on but I can remember some poor lads who having drank a few 'extras' were incapable of even defending themselves after going 'over the top'. We were all tensed up and I can still picture Sir Harry at the end of the trench with a big pocket watch in his hand saying 'Calm down boys, we've plenty of time'." Sir Harry was killed minutes later and his body was never found. Whilst searching for his charge later, Robert Quigg brought in seven separate men who had been lying in no-man's-land. He never did find his officer and in September 1916 he was awarded the nation's highest medal for gallantry, the Victoria Cross, for his actions that day."

Irish Northern Aid: Irish History :"The events of 1969 precipitated a split in the IRA. Once more the peaceful pursuit of change in the form of the Civil Rights Movement had been met with violence from the British state and so it was that the armed struggle gained predominance again as the republican strategy.

Through 1970 and 1971 the IRA gained increasing support in nationalist districts in the Six Counties and among nationalists throughout Ireland. This accelerated with the introduction of internment without trial in 1971. IRA Volunteers carried out a campaign of urban guerrilla warfare against the British army and economic bombings.

In July 1972 republican leaders were flown to London for talks with British government ministers during a Truce between the IRA and the British army. It quickly became clear that the British government was simply using the Truce as a tactical device in its military campaign and the Truce broke down.

The conflict in the Six Counties intensified. In England the IRA carried out a bombing campaign. Another truce was called in 1974 - 1975, but once more there was no political will by the British to reach a just political settlement.

Despite the British military saturation of urban areas and widespread deployment in the countryside, the IRA, with wide support in nationalist communities, continued to wage an effective campaign, making some parts of the country inaccessible by road to British forces. In August 1979 the IRA inflicted its greatest number of casualties on the British Army in a single incident since the 1919-21 period when it ambushed and killed 18 British soldiers at Warrenpoint, County Down.

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s confidential contacts were maintained between British government representatives and the IRA. These channels proved unproductive of an understanding on the British part of how to resolve the conflict. Bomb went of 11:15am (even today details are hard to get and some say 11:20 or even 11:40). 75000 people evacuated (they still were moving people further back when the bomb went off). Its a big city. 3300 lb bomb (1500 kg)

Here is another picture of the bomb in Manchester 96 with th ford van that contained the bomb (the notorious white van aka it would be) and the blasted building, some of them no where near the bomb site it was that powerful. And the famous post box that was near the explosion but survived.I also noticed that the obelisk erected by the freemasons? which was at the far end of Market Street near the McDonnalds was removed - like many things had become structurally unsafe, and the lower-down market street underground market complex, formerly opposite an entrance to the Arndale, now has gone for no-doubt the same reason. (used to have alternative stalls and some sikh guys selling things there, plus srubbers like Connie whimping it: some of these moved to the Corn Exchange? after or so the legend goes but i'm not so sure. Anyway the Corn Exchange got re-designed inside and has gone upmarket so some of them would have gone to 'Aflex Palace' after the bombing. This is between Victoria and Picadilly city centre but some way from the bomb. Dispite the gusto and bravado it took Manchester years to rebuild and recover. For a time the M&S moved into Lewis. They put a plaque on the post-box which i could bearly read. As the irish catholic republicans were shouting support for the bombing there were some ugly incidents, and later a UVF memorial band turned up and played outside the Great Union Bar, Corperation ST. so there you go.

A small, film-like square spermicide, vaginal film is placed on the fingertip and inserted against the cervix at least fifteen minutes prior to intercourse. It is effective for one hour after insertion.

The Impact of Introversion and Extroversion on Political and Religious Preferences
(Part 2)

In last month's issue, we reported that extroverts and introverts are not politically or religiously equivalent.

Extroverts are usually more religious, more likely to literally interpret religious doctrine, more likely to believe in their political party's platforms, more likely to organize themselves into social groups, and more likely to align their beliefs to what other people believe in those same social groups.

The Introverted Brain--(Areas in Blue Are More Activated in Introverts)

On the other hand, introverts are typically less religious, less likely to participate in organized groups, less likely to believe in their political party's platforms, and less likely to give as much weight to what other people believe, inside or outside of their social groups.

A question we left hanging from last month's issue was exactly what criteria were the 1,616 participants in our Winter 2006 survery using to decide on whether they were introverted or extroverted?

Brain imaging would reveal several neural structures that correlate strongly with introverted and extroverted cognition. Prefrontal cortical regions involved in memory retrieval and planning were more active in the introverts, along with the anterior thalamus and anterior insula, also involved in memory retrieval.

In contrast, the extroverted brain exhibits more activity in

the anterior cingulate, posterior thalamus, temporal lobes, posterior parietal lobe, right insula, and left amygdala. These regions are responsible for real-time sensory processing and rapid resolution of the emotional significance of sensory events.

The introvert is adapting more neural resources involved in behavioral inhibition than the extroverts. In short, the introverted brain is more actively relating current sensory information with memory retrieval systems and planning responsive behavior. The "self-talk" portion of Broca's area was also more activated in the introverts, providing support for this activity. Conversely, this "self-talk" region was not as active in extroverts.

Extroversion and the Olfactory System

Increased temporal lobe activity, associated with extroversion, has also been implicated with enhanced religiosity and olfaction. In an article in last month's edition of Neuropolitics.org, Sexuality, Religiosity and the Olfactory System, we discussed some of the evidence linking the temporal lobes with enhanced religiosity. We also discussed the curious elevation in the reported sense of smell of the Very Religious, and the strong olfactory sensations associated with temporal lobe epilepsy.

However, few things in our Winter 2006 survey correlated quite as strongly with extroversion and introversion as did sense of smell.

Relative to males, the females in our survey reported a better sense of smell across all political cohorts. Females typically report higher rates of olfactory efficiency, and research has repeatedly demonstrated a female advantage regardless of age.

But we also found a significant elevation in the reported olfactory efficiency in the extroverts. In the above graph, the extroverts (in red) all report higher rates than the introverts (in blue). This is true across all political and gender cohorts.

Discussion

Extroverts and introverts are using their brains differently, so it should not be surprising that they exhibit variations in political and religious cognition. The introvert utilizes more frontal cortical resources in sensory input analysis, and behavioral inhibition is one of the results. By reducing the demands of verbal processing, the introvert can devote more resources to sensory integration--clearing the table so the slower-acting prefrontal regions can take their time.

The introverts, on average, were more inclined to say they make their political decisions based on logic than were the extroverts in our survey. The introverts were also more likely to say they made their political decisions based on morality.

Conversely, the extroverts were more likely to cite that they made their political decisions based on religion and in accordance to their political party than were the introverts. Belief-alignment to their social groups played a larger role in the extrovert's political decision making.

In our survey, extroverts were much more oriented towards relationships with people. They were more likely to know their next-door neighbors, more likely to want attention, more likely to use their cell phones, more likely to carry pictures of people in their wallets, more likely to belong to social clubs, and more likely to remember the birth dates of more people.

Organizing into social groups is such an important survival attribute that the extrovert would seem to have quite an advantage over the introvert. In Part 1 of this article we asked--If the survival value of participating in social groups is so valuable, why are there so many introverts?

We did find one significant advantage for the introverts---enhanced visuospatial reasoning. The introverts scored much better than the extroverts in our visuospatial test. This is likely due to the introvert's elevated frontal lobe activity.

Perhaps the most surprising result in our Winter 2006 survey was the potential political and religious impact of olfaction. But maybe this should be expected.

Olfaction in lower animals is critical in aggression, sexual arousal, resolving dominance or submissiveness among conspecifics, identification of specific individuals within a group, intruder detection, and the determination of conspecific stress levels. If olfaction is impaired in rats, aggression levels and sexual arousal are reduced in both males and females.

The organization of the olfactory system in humans is very suspicious, as it is very closely associated with the same neural substrates used in both sexuality and religiosity, such as the amygdalae and the temporal lobes. Olfaction is highly correlated with religiosity, as well as with extroversion.

The frontal cortial regions seem to be reducing religiosity. In our December 2005 edition, we noted that the dopaminergic pathway originating in the substantia nigra may be interferring with religious beliefs. The noradrenergic pathway originating in the locus coeruleus may also be impairing religiosity. These two pathways can elevate the activity levels of the frontal lobes.

Introversion and shyness are related, but not equivalent psychological attributes. Introversion incorporates more neural resources involved in memory association and planning. Shyness is more closely related to limbic structures such as the right anterior cingulate gyrus and amygdala.

In our survey, the self-categorization of introverted versus extroverted is of particular interest, as we did not explicitly determine if shyness was one of the self-classification criteria. We did collect indicators of shyness such as Glossophobia (speech), and Ochlophobia (crowds). Correlating these phobias against visuospatial task performance was not as statistically significant as with introversion. Therefore, it seems that most of the introverts in our survey were not using shyness are their primary criteria for self-classification.

Introversion and extroversion are politically and religiously active psychological attributes. The introverts exhibit political and religious behavior that is different than the extroverts, which is reflective of the more prefrontal cortical orientation of the introverts, and the more temporoparietal orientation of the extroverts." huh! sorry you fucking read that now?

Dal Ri'ada (Ulster-Scots-Picts Kingdom)

Dal Ri'ada (also Dal Riata) was the kingdom that included northern ireland and western scotland. At times it also included the Isle of Mann (off Lancashire former Brigantia) and Strathclyde/Glasgow. At one point the Picts of Galloway (Niduari) joined it.

When Alpine became king he untied the whole lot into the new nation of Alba...
